Training We Offer

Cadets are able to achieve many qualifications within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets which are able to progress them through both their cadet career and further into their professional life.

Classification Training

First Class cadets will study the foundations of the Air Cadets and will introduce them to the Aerospace field of study. This includes the Air Training Corps, Drill & Ceremonial, The Royal Air Force, History of Flight, Fundamental Principles of Airmanship, Map Reading, Initial Expedition Training and Basic Radio Communications.

First Class

Leading Cadet

Leading cadets will concentrate more on Aerospace and will go into further depth on the fundamentals. Topics include Airmanship, Basic Navigation and Principles of Flight

Senior & Master Cadet

Senior and Master cadets will specialise in 6 topics from a selection of 10 topics which will allow them to specialise in specific areas of Aerospace related subjects. Topics include Principles of Airframes, Air Navigation, Air Power, Aircraft Handling and Flying Techniques, Military Aircraft Systems and Piston Engine Propulsion.

Instructor Cadet

Once Cadets complete their classification, they can then study to become an Instructor Cadet. This allows them to deliver the Classification syllabus they have learned to their peers. To qualify for this opportunity, a cadet must attend a Method of Instruction course as well as an assessment in delivering a practical lesson.

Further Qualifications

Cadets are also eligible to attend the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course and Junior Leaders Course once they have completed their Master Classification Level. These courses focus on Aerospace and Fieldcraft respectively.

Progressive Training Syllabus

The new Progressive Training Syllabus has been designed to allow all cadets to engage with a wide variety of training activities from the day they join the RAF Air Cadets.


Advancement through a series of progressive awards at blue, bronze, silver and gold levels aims to provide opportunities to enhance skills and achieve nationally recognised qualifications and awards, whilst at the same time, building confidence and developing teamwork and leadership qualities.


Cadets are able to achive and show their training in many different disciplines, such as, Shooting and Marksmanship, Parachuting, Road Marching, First Aid, Duke of Edinburgh, Leadership, Radio Operating and Cyber Studies, Music as well as flying and gliding.
